[1]Dateline: San Antonio -- March 6, 2009
When we left for San Antonio to attend ChimaeraCon 2009, I never thought that we would be involved in a war of Good vs. Evil. OK, I'm not necessarily shocked that there was a war, 'cause that's what happens when MechCorps brings the BattleTech Cockpit Simulator pods.
But a battle of light against dark for the inhabitants of San Antonio???
[2]In the corner of Evil is Lord Vile [3] (Alex Gray), self-proclaimed evil genius with goals of world domination, leader to hordes of minions across the planet including the US, Australia, Brazil and even Austin! (Franchises available, see www.lordvile.com [4] for more information). His Vile-ness is also known to make appearances for causes that strike his whim. These appearances include motivational speeches, charities, and weddings.
[5]In the corner of Good, is The Defuser [6] (Jarett Crippen) Austin Police Academy Instructor and winner of Stan Lee's "Who Wants to be a Superhero?" in 2007. The Defuser now keeps the Austin citizens safe while also supporting charities. His main charity is called "Scare for a Cure" (SCAREforaCure.org [7]) where he has raised large quantities of dinero for various health charities by creating and hosting haunted houses in the Austin area.
Shortly after MechCorps set up at ChimaeraCon, we were approached by representatives from both Lord Vile and The Defuser. It seems that both sides were looking to unleash the rabid dogs of war on the opposing side... and we brought the kennels.
At High Two O'clock on Scarab Stronghold, The Defuser brought his Shadowcat 'Mech paired with his Hero Support "X-Seven" as wingman in his Mauler while Lord Vile Commanding the field in his Loki had minion Sakari as back-up in a Thor. Carnage ensued as both sides advanced. No MechWarrior was spared as The Defuser and X-Seven dispensed Indiscriminate Justice across the battlefield.
In the end, the side of Good won over Evil, by a little more than double the kills. However, the use of tactics amazed MechCorps Officials as Good killed their own teammates where Evil did not... Hmmmmm.
"One of the highlights of our time at ChimaeraCon was the opportunity to take on that blowhard the Defuser in the BattleTech simulator pods." mused Vile. "His team was victorious, which triggered a round of unseemly boasting. When I checked the scores I noticed that one on one I had beaten him. Typical. My thanks to the crew at MechCorps."
