MechaCon returns to Lafayette, La. in August
Anime, Transformers & Japanese Cultural event
LAFAYETTE – After three successful annual conventions since 2005, MechaCon returns to the Hilton Lafayette on the weekend of August 1-3, 2008 with an all-new event dubbed MechaCon IV: Pushing the Sky.
Conveniently located along the I-10 corridor between New Orleans and Houston, Lafayette will again serve as the host city for MechaCon. Being a convention held in the "Hub City," MechaCon is easily accessible for fans from not only south, central and north Louisiana, but also east Texas, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.
Confirmed attendees at previous MechaCons included fans from areas as far away as Mexico, Canada, Washington state, Kansas, California, New York and more, making MechaCon a well-attended event from all fronts.
Most notable in our 2008 event schedule is COWBOY BEBOP: 10 Years of Pushing the Sky, a 10th anniversary celebration of the cultural phenomenon that defined an entire generation of anime fan, featuring voice actors from the series and movie, namely Beau Billingslea (Jet), Steve Blum (Spike), Melissa Fahn (Ed) and voice actor and ADR Director, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (Julia).
Also slated for the 2008 convention is GHOST IN THE SHELL: Fan/Machine Interface, where voice actors from the series and movies, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (Major Kusanagi) and Melissa Fahn (Tachikoma) join with Richard Epcar (Batou) and Ellyn Stern (Haraway) to bring the wonderful world of Ghost in the Shell to attendees, including a screening of the unreleased English version of the film, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.
In addition to working with many companies and professionals in the Anime industry to bring attendees the most enjoyable convention experience possible, MechaCon IV will also be a return stop on Harmony Gold's Robotech Convention Tour 2008, where MechaCon welcomes Robotech creator Carl Macek and Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles director, Tommy Yune.
