    FLYING DUTCHMAN (5/19/63)

On his second mission over South Vietnam in 1965, Lt. Cmdr. John Adamson was downed by a SAM missile and spent seven years at the “Hanoi Hilton” P.O.W. camp. Upon his escape, he resumed combat missions and was again downed and captured. Released in 1973, he retured from the Navy and joined the VGL. Upon receiving his first translocation mission, Adamson named his pod FLYING DUTCHMAN after the legendary sailor who magically appeared and disappeared every seven years.
