VALKYRIE
Ingrid Bengtson, the first woman race car driver to compete in both the French and Monaco Grand prix, joins the VGL in 1978. After pilot training, she makes seventeen missions to BattleTech in 1980 before returning to the University of Uppsala to earn her doctorate in engineering. In 1986, she developed the zinc-alloy radiation shield which makes the System 2.0 pod invulnerable to low spectrum laser weapons; in her honor, the first Systems 2.0 pod is codenamed VALKYRIE and Bengtson herself piloted its maiden voyage on January 16, 1987.
