    SARCOPHAGUS

    With the discovery of BattleTech in 1961, Project Lascaux was put on hold and its co-director, David Markle, was shifted to manned missions. Markle had acquired a lifelong fascination with Egyptian archaeology while serving with Army Air Force in North Africa during World War II; in 1962, while a professor of physics at Rutgers University, he conducted a magnetic resonance analysis in the Valley of the Kings which led VGL explorers to discover the tomb of Amenhotep VI. In honor of his Egyptian studies, Markle named his pod SARCOPHAGUS.
