There are two mission categories: solo (also known as free-for-all) and team missions. In a solo mission you put yourself against all the other pilots on the battlefield. In a team mission you are partnered with up to eight other pilots (human and/or AI bots) to achieve the goals of the particular mission.
Attrition
(aka: Att, Free For All, FFA)Solo or team play with Human or AI opponents. This is the default mission type.
Points are awarded for the number of kills you make within the given time limit, but you also get points for the amount of damage you inflict on your opponents. The individual pilot or team with the most total hit points wins.

Destruction
(aka: Dest)Solo or team play with Human or AI teammates and/or opponents.
This is the most straight forward type of mission. You are awarded points for kills only. Your job or that of your team is to rack up as many kills as possible in the allotted time. The individual pilot with he most kills wins.

Steal the Beacon
(aka: Steal the Bacon, StB, Kill the man with the ball, Odd Ball, Smear the ... you get the idea.)Solo play with Human opponents only.
This is a mission of keep-away in which you score points by taking and possessing the flag within a given time limit until an opponent takes it away from you by killing you. The location of the flag is indicated as a nav point on your navigation MFD and on your map screen. You acquire the flag by simply running over it.
Points are awarded for the number of seconds you hold the beacon. The winning pilot is the one who has held the beacon the longest at the end of the mission.
You can lose the flag by either shutting down in a heat game or by having your 'Mech destroyed out from under you.

King of the Hill
(aka: KotH)Solo or team play with with Human teammates and/or opponents only.
In this mission an individual pilot or team must occupy a 100-meter space near the hill object (or building) for as long as possible. The location of this object is indicated as a nav point on your navigation MFD and on your map screen.
The individual or team that holds this location the longest wins.

Capture the Flag
(aka: CtF)Team play with Human teammates and opponents only.
In this mission, a flag on the battlefield must be found and captured by an individual pilot of a team and taken to the designated drop zone. The location of the flag and the drop zones are indicated as nav points on your navigation MFD and on your map screen. You acquire the flag by simply running over it. The team who successfully gets the flag to the drop zone and has the most kills within the time limit wins.

Seige Assault
(aka: Seige)Team play with Human and AI teammates and opponents.
The goal for this mission type is to "Lay Seige" upon the opponent's base and destroy certain structures in the base. All pilots should know how to target in their 'Mechs so that they can identify the structures in order to destroy or defend them.
There will only be one attacking team. The other team will be defending the base.
